I don't feel like writing my gothic story right now (id est for NaNo this year); I want to write something more modern - something containing or dealing with crime solving like Midsomer or Frost mixed Star Trek.
Yesterday I went over the rules and found that as long as the writer thinks s/he is writing a novel it can be a 50K users' manual for a can opener for all they care (id est fan fiction is all right) and the way I'll write my new story idea it won't be too much of a fan fiction.
Time Crime Solving Starfleet Aliens in the 34th Century - isn't that the sweetest working title ever?! I actually already have a sensible agency acronym for them, but as for a working title that's goofy enough for my trekkie-nerd-ness to feel gloriously geeky.
By November the first I'm pretty sure I've changed my mind again and will write something completely different like Attack of the 10 feet Zombie Cowboy or something...

My timetable for NaNo is going to Hell in a hand basket! I now know for certain that I will have to write two essays in November and work has picked up again so although I get more money I get less free time – the world positively hates me.

I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year – a gothic tale, sort of Dante meets Lewis Carroll esque with a lot of dark supernatural tendencies. First year I felt like doing it now with Alis, Jon and Cori not writing this year it seems rather superfluous to be “emotional writing support” for only one person – I’m a woman and thus can multitask like a dream (yea right!).
Funny thing though, although I’ve been in the background since 2001 it never even occurred to me once how much like a sporting event NaNo is, from having hung around the forum for the past few days I get the impression it’s like the Hobby Novelist OS! A lot of planning, research (and training) goes into the challenge – plot arches are created beforehand, character sheets drawn up, writing tables calculated, mp3 play lists composed et cetera et cetera. A lot of people seem to go in for it far more seriously than any of my friends do and did.
I must confess I too have been drawn into the craze that is NaNo – not only have I created this shiny new blog with which to discuss my progress, but I – the Queen of Chaos – have also planed and plotted my novella in far more detail than I plan my other fiction & far more important essays (only my fairy tales are better planed).
Uptil the first of November I will continue writing on my crime novel and then take a break in its writing for NaNo and take it up again ‘round the Christian New Year – if I’m finished revising and correcting my NaNo novella by then that is.
